ish…

Hullo again.

Mother and I have finished proofreading! In fact, we finished awhile ago, however, due to complications involving a certain book cover, my novel is taking longer to publish than I had anticipated.

I, honestly, don’t know when I am going to learn my lesson.  But it will be fine.  As long as it comes out right in the end, I’ll accept the amount of time it’s taken.  The last novel I published, I got it published right away and it didn’t turn out well, so I will try and deal with the delay.

(Still, me being me, I am frustrated with the whole thing…)

Coming Soon…

Hullo! Goodness, it’s been a long time since I last posted…

“Did you miss me?…”

Anyway, back to the original idea of this post.

After completing the NANOWRIMO challenge, I enlisted my mother to help me proofread my novel.  It is a long process, but we are closing in and only have two more chapters to check! So, I didn’t finishes in time to get the free copies, 😦 but I still intend to send it to Createspace.

Once the novel is finally complete, I will have a post about it.

P.S. This was my 40th post!!

The Novel Ends

As soon as one saw the other, they began to cry.  It was a strange thing for both of them to do at their age, but it could not be helped.  For all of what their past holds, this moment seemed so surreal.  What Broderick dreamed of the most when he was a child was no longer a dream, but reality. “You made it, brother,” Farerick finally said, and embraced Broderick with a smile.

Well folks, tomorrow is the last day of NANOWRIMO, and I hope everything has gone well for all the participants.

Now then, I have been waiting a whole month to say this.. Ehem… I WON! Ehem…thank you for listening.

It was a long/short month, for sure.

My final word count was 61,274.  This is the longest book I have ever done in my life!! Twenty-Six chapters, 374 pages, and I think I like them all. (I hope I like them all).

Here is a quick summary for you:

When Riverwood is in danger of going into war with the goblins, the ill-stricken king calls for his finest Horseman, Broderick, to lead his men to fend off their enemy.  During this time of preparation, the king dies, bringing forth his son, Deyorn, to the throne.
Now king Deyorn—with bitter emotions towards Broderick—and a little persuasion from one of the local lords—decides not to send the men into battle.  Broderick must now fight with himself whether he should follow his king’s orders and have the possibility of his homeland going into desolation; or disobey and  have the possibility of being discharged from his position.

And that is it.

Now, I know NANO is over, but that doesn’t mean you should stop writing.  Keep at it!

The Making of a Cover

What else makes writing novels fun? … doing the artwork for said novel!

Here is the cover artwork I did for my latest book.  I drew it back before NANO started, just to give myself some inspiration on what I want my characters to look like.

This—as you can see—is the start.  Here we have the main character and his trusty horse.  (Well, their heads anyway…)

This fellow here, well, he’s a main c. too, but not the title character.

He is the little brother—if you will.  Ready and waiting is he, with his bow (not seen) and quiver full of arrows.  Hopefully he’ll never run out…

And now, everyone is all drawn out.

And almost all coloured…

And done!

From left to right: Bernard, Farerick, Parish, Broderick, Deyorn, and Eryn.

(As for where Bernard’s quiver is, I do not know…Mistakes will happen!)

So anyway, for this picture, I used mostly watercolours, with some pen—Pitt Pens, that is—and a little bit of coloured pencil.

10/31/14: It Was a Dark and Stormy Night…(No, Really)

Screen Shot 2014-10-31 at 9.57.29 PM

I never thought I would work so hard in my life.  It was long days, trying to convince everyone that this was the right path to take.  I know it is going to be hard, I know it is going to be painful.  I worry for my life, for the life of my little brother as I watch him sleep beside me.  We both know what the outcome of this fight could be, but in the end, we remind ourselves what the cost will be if we cower into the shadows as they wish.  I wonder what the future holds for us when we cannot stand together like brothers in arms?

(Excerpt from my novel this year)

Is everyone ready? Good luck and happy writing!!

In Training

So I am in the midst of writing a book about Horsemen.  In this particular chapter I am working on now, the main character is training a colt so that one day they can ride together.  Naturally, I wanted to research “How to Train a Colt”.  While looking, this video happened to pop up and well, I just felt I had to share it.

So here it is:
